The Deputy Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh stated on Friday that torrential rain had caused a wall to fall, killing at least nine people, including three children.
Brajesh Pathak told local media that the victims were casual workers and their families who were asleep when the building collapsed early on Friday morning in Lucknow, the state capital.
There has been extreme precipitation in several regions of India’s most populous state since Thursday, and local media have claimed that schools and universities have been forced to close as a result of the flooding.
Pathak said, “Three people have been injured and have been shifted to hospital. We are investigating the reasons behind the wall collapse.”
