Virus surge continues as state adds 5.5K cases; Corona on the rise

Corona cases surge across the United States.

COVID-19 cases across the state added 5,561 more cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infections to 1,253,198.

The past week has reported more than 40,000 cases. Since last week, the Ohio Department of Health reported 148 new deaths. The state is updating the number only after death certificates have been processed, usually Tuesdays and Fridays.

Locally, Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties increased a combined 207 new cases.

In Mahoning County, the total number of cases is 24,764, including 76 new cases reported on Sunday.

In Trumbull County, the total number of cases is 18,317, including 70 new cases reported Sunday.

In Columbiana County, the total number of cases is 10,396, including 61 new cases reported Sunday.

Mahoning County ranks 11th out of the state’s 88 counties for the number of cases. Trumbull County is 18th and Columbiana is 27th.

Like it has been from the beginning, Franklin County is No. 1 with 142,532 cases, with Cuyahoga coming in second with 126,758. They are the only Ohio counties with six-digit case numbers.
