ISLAMABAD: Ambassador-designate to Pakistan from the United States, Donald Armin Blome, will arrive in Islamabad to assume control of Pakistan’s mission to the United States, during the second part of February. Whereas Sardar Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, will be in Washington taking charge of his mission. The United States has named Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcett as its ambassador to India, and he will fly to New Delhi to take up his post in the same week.
An increase in diplomatic activity is expected, as new ambassadors are assigned and assuming their positions. He was expected to run for President, but Eric Garcett has chosen a diplomatic post that shows the importance the United States places on its relations with India.
It is expected that a high-profile Pakistani delegation would also arrive in the early third week of February for a series of important meetings. The visit is timed to coincide with the German government’s hosting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC). It’s a yearly event that has been postponed for the last two years owing to the COVID epidemic.
However, for the first time in over five years, The News reports that a full-fledged US ambassador would assume a position in Pakistan.
A larger-scale and more serious engagement in the area implies that the United States has been planning this for some time already. The United States’ interest in Afghanistan has diminished, but it will not allow foreign terrorist groups to establish safe havens there again. The United States government has its own plans for the Middle East. Pakistan is open to working with the United States as long as the US does not interfere with Pakistan’s relations with other nations in the area.
The next US ambassador to the region has a lot on his plate. If Donald Armin Blome gets his way, Pakistan should strike all terrorist groups regardless of their affiliations. His primary targets will be the TTP and the Kashmiri Mujahideen.
Ambassador Blome’s testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) was lengthy in outlining his goals for Pakistan. He has completed all formalities for proceeding to Islamabad.
