United Arab Emirates: many people get together to make care packages for people in Pakistan

The National stated that in response to the devastating floods in Pakistan, hundreds of volunteers gathered at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Dubai Expo City, and the Expo Centre in Sharjah to collect donations and pack thousands of urgent relief kits and food supplies.

Hundreds of Emiratis, including children, gathered on Saturday as part of the countrywide volunteering effort “We Stand Together” to collect boxes destined for Pakistan.

There were a total of 30,000 boxes packed with 1.2 tonnes of supplies by the end of the event, all made by volunteers.

Young participants in the community event offered their brand of positivity to the relief boxes by sketching pictures and writing encouraging messages to the children of the crisis-stricken country.

Over 33 million people have been displaced as a direct result of the flooding in Pakistan, and the death toll is nearing 1,400.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres was in the country last week and asked for “huge financial support” from the international community.

Expo Centre in Sharjah hosts a volunteer group of about 500 people. Items like rice, oil, and tomato paste were included in relief boxes along with sanitary napkins, soap, and other necessities.

It was organized by the Ministry of Community Development in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (which oversees the Emirates Red Crescent).
