ISLAMABAD: The British government travel advisory has issues update travel guidelines for its citizens. Those who are visiting Pakistan due to the risk of terrorism. The advisory specifically highlights the major cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi. These cities are high-risk areas for terrorism, kidnapping, and sectarian violence.
The advisory warns that foreign nationals, especially Westerners, may be target by terrorist attacks. British citizens are advises to avoid crowded places, political gatherings, public events, and religious functions throughout Pakistan. The travel advisory also specifies areas to be avoided. These most areas in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the N45 road from Mardan to Chitral, Balochistan province excluding the southern coast, the section of the N35 (Karakoram Highway) between Mansehra and Chilas, and within 10 miles of the Line of Control.
Additionally, the advisory warns against travel to Arandu town and the road between Mirkhani and Arandu in KP, the southern coast of Balochistan, and areas of Sindh Province north of Nawabshah. It also mentions the potential for violence during political rallies and protests, which may have an anti-Western dimension.
Precautionary Measures by Travel Advisory
The advisory emphasizes the risk of attacks in areas with high population density and inadequate security. These areas are markets, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, hiking trails, airports, infrastructure projects, public transport, schools, and educational institutions. It advises UK nationals to maintain constant vigilance, limit exposure to high-risk locations, and stay updated on local news and social media.
The advisory further highlights the increased potential for targeted attacks, including on Western interests and religious minorities, during holy periods and religious holidays. It also mentions Pakistan’s extreme weather conditions and vulnerability to natural disasters. Advising British travelers to take precautionary measures and stay informed about local weather updates.
Lastly, the advisory mentions the risk of earthquakes in Pakistan. It all urges British citizens to familiarize themselves with safety procedures in case of such an event.
