UAE Consul General Visits Punjab University, World Bank Delegation Engages with GCU Officials

In a series of significant interactions, representatives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the World Bank engaged with academic institutions in Lahore, underscoring the importance of international collaboration and educational reforms.

UAE Consul General Dr Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi visited Punjab University and met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood. Dr Al Remeithi praised Pakistan’s educational and healthcare institutions, highlighting the significant contributions of Pakistanis to the development of the UAE. He affirmed the UAE’s unwavering support for Pakistan and announced increased scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students and resources for the renovation of the PU Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the World Bank, led by Senior Economist Ms Inga Afanasieve and Education Specialist Tashmina Rahman, visited Government College University (GCU) Lahore alongside the Higher Education Development Project (HEDP) team led by Project Director Dr Mahmood-ul-Hassan Butt.

During their visit, the delegation held discussions with GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Adnan Ahmad and university officials, focusing on implementing academic reforms and the revised Undergraduate Education Policy (UEP). They were briefed on GCU’s administrative and academic operations, including establishing the Quality Enhancement Cell (QECAC) Unit and its role in promoting self-assessment and accreditation processes.

The delegation also visited MAO College Lahore, an affiliated college of GCU, to interact with faculty, senior management, and students involved in programs under the revised UG Policy.

Prof Dr Hamid Mukhtar, Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at GCU, lauded the successful visit, noting the satisfaction expressed by the World Bank-HEDP team with GCU’s administrative functions and educational reforms.

These engagements reflect the growing importance of international partnerships and educational initiatives in fostering academic excellence and collaboration across borders.
