The Metropolitan Police Service reported that two officers were stabbed in central London on Friday and are receiving medical care in hospital.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and assaulting an emergency worker.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan told the BBC that the event did not involve terrorism and that the two officers involved were not in critical condition.
“On Friday, September 16th, at approximately 06:00 hrs (0500 GMT), police in the Leicester Square vicinity approached a man armed with a knife.
Two police officers have been injured and are receiving medical attention in the hospital “so said the police report.
Another man was arrested and sent to a hospital for treatment, where he is still being held at this moment, police added.
