Two dead, more than 40 injured in Czech train crash

A Train crash in Czech leaves two dead and forty injured.

A collision on the 4th of August (Monday), between a fast train from Munich and a commuter passenger train in the Czech Republic left forty injured and two dead.

According to the regional rescue service, four people who had suffered from very serious injuries were taken away by helicopters and seven required surgery, at the same time 31 passengers were lightly injured in the crash near the western Czech town of Domazlice.

“The Ex 351 went through a signal indicating Stop…and collided with a passenger train,”The transport Minister Karel Havlicek said on Twitter, referring to the express train from Munich to Prague.

TV footage shown on Czech television showed the destroyed driver’s cabin of the fast train along with the smashed front of the local train. The footage also confirmed that both the trains remained upright on or near the tracks.

Four helicopters were deployed by the emergency services after the crash that occurred around 8am (0600 GMT) near a town southwest of Prague, named Milavace, said CTK news.

According to Commander Jaroslav Hrdlička of the regional fire department, rescue workers were still in search of one missing person in the wreckage.
