Turkey will submit a petition to join the global genocide case against Israel, as announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan stated on Monday that Turkey’s parliamentary legal team will file the petition with the International Court of Justice in The Hague this Wednesday. He emphasized that Turkey is committed to ending the “barbarism” that has resulted in the deaths of 40,000 innocents in Gaza over the past ten months.
“No matter the atrocities committed by this bloodthirsty genocide network, Turkey and its people will remain steadfast in their support for the Palestinians,” Erdogan declared following a cabinet meeting in Ankara.
He criticized Western nations, particularly the US, for being overly aligned with Israel and a group of radical Zionists. Erdogan also noted the lack of progress from ceasefire negotiations, blaming the Netanyahu administration for its continued policy of violence despite Hamas’s constructive approach.
Earlier in Cairo, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey would formally apply to join the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
Fidan condemned those who denounce the Russia-Ukraine war while ignoring the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. He also accused Israel of a “treacherous assassination” of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh during recent ceasefire talks.
Fidan urged those who support Israel to restrain its actions, warning that the region cannot endure further provocations, including Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Iran, which threaten to escalate the conflict. He emphasized that Ankara and Cairo are working diligently to prevent the spread of the war in the region. Fidan’s visit to Egypt began on Sunday and will continue for two days.
