Turkey has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli army’s recent massacre of displaced Palestinians at the Tabaeen School in central Gaza. In a statement released on Saturday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry denounced the attack as a “new crime against humanity.” The statement emphasized that over a hundred civilians seeking refuge in the school building in the Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City were killed in the assault.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also criticized the Netanyahu administration, accusing it of deliberately sabotaging negotiations aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire. This attack, according to Turkey, underscores the Israeli government’s continued efforts to obstruct peace processes. The statement further highlighted that international actors who fail to act against such actions are complicit in these crimes.
The Israeli assault involved targeting the Tabaeen School, which was sheltering more than 6,000 displaced individuals, with three massive bombs. Ismail Thawabteh, the director of the Government Media Office in Gaza, reported that Israeli warplanes dropped bombs weighing 2,000 pounds (over 900 kg) each on the school. The devastating attack resulted in the immediate deaths of at least 100 people, with many others sustaining severe injuries, including amputations.
This incident has drawn widespread condemnation from various quarters, as it underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict. The international community faces increasing pressure to address the escalating violence and support efforts toward a lasting peace.
