Trump Calls for Immediate End to Russia-Ukraine War

Russia-Ukraine War

US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Thursday that his incoming administration will prioritize efforts to bring an end to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, emphasizing the urgent need for the conflict to be resolved.

Speaking at a gala hosted by the America First Policy Institute at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, Trump expressed his commitment to addressing the war, stating, “We’re going to work on the Middle East, and we’re going to work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. It’s gotta stop. Russia and Ukraine’s gotta stop.”

He pointed to the devastating toll of the war, referencing a report he had seen earlier in the day. “I saw a report today. Thousands of people over the last three days were killed. Thousands and thousands were killed. They happened to be soldiers, but whether they’re soldiers or they’re people sitting in towns, we’re going to work it,” Trump said, underscoring the human cost of the conflict and his intention to focus on a resolution.

Turning to his recent election victory, Trump celebrated what he described as a historic win. He highlighted that the American people had delivered “something very, very amazing” during the election held on November 5, 2024.

“The biggest political victory in 129 years…We swept all swing states. We won the popular vote,” Trump declared, reflecting on the results that saw him secure 312 electoral votes, comfortably surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, failed to make inroads in key battleground states, resulting in a decisive loss.

Trump went on to share his thoughts about the positive momentum building in the country since his election victory. “The country is doing good since I was elected on November 5,” he said, attributing improvements in the stock market and an increase in national enthusiasm to his election.

Jokingly addressing House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump proposed a humorous suggestion: “Now the only thing is, Mr. Speaker, I think it’s important, maybe you should pass a bill — you have to start my term from November 5, OK? Or November 6 if you want. November 5, because the market’s gone through the roof, enthusiasm’s doubled in the last short while.”

Trump also acknowledged the broader Republican successes in the 2024 election, which saw the party reclaim control of the House and Senate in addition to the White House.

With Republicans now holding the majority in both chambers of Congress, Trump’s agenda is expected to have smoother legislative support.

Donald Trump will officially be sworn into office on January 20, 2025, marking the start of his four-year term as the 47th President of the United States.

As he prepares to take on his new role, Trump has signaled that addressing international conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war, will be at the forefront of his administration’s foreign policy agenda.
