KABUL: A negotiator of Afghan government today said the Taliban have offered a 3-month ceasefire in exchange of release of their seven thousand imprisoned companions. Taliban have also demanded of the Afghan government to get them removed from the blacklist of the United Nations.
Nader Nadery told media that the release of 7000 imprisoned Taliban was a big demand for the Afghan government.
“It is a big demand,” Nader Nadery said, adding that the insurgents have also demanded the removal of the Taliban’s leaders from a United Nations blacklist.
The announcement came as Pakistan guards used tear gas Thursday to disperse hundreds of people who tried to breach a border crossing into Afghanistan, officials said.
The frontier was closed a day earlier by Pakistan after the Taliban seized the Afghan side in Spin Boldak district, continuing sweeping gains made by the Taliban since foreign forces stepped up their withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Taliban have announced ban on “smoking and shaving” in the areas under their control in Afghanistan. Currently, Taliban claim control over more than 85 percent areas in Afghanistan, including border areas close to Iran, Pakistan, and China.
