Taliban denounce ‘biased ‘ UN report, claim Afghans ‘live peacefully’

On Tuesday, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), claimed that a recent United Nations report on human rights in the nation was biased and not reflective of reality.

His comments follow the release of the first report by the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennet, which detailed a wide range of alleged human rights violations and abuses under the current Taliban rule.

The IEA’s official stance on the study was “regrettable that reckless and provocative assertions are being published at the address of the United Nations against the Islamic Emirate,” which was a strong rejection of the contents of the report.

He insisted the UN should “respect the thoughts and beliefs of people from all around the world and not take a position equal to the mood of specific countries.”

If this behavior persists, the organization’s credibility will plummet and its narrow focus on foreign policy will be exposed.

The spokeswoman claimed that women in Afghanistan were not in danger. additionally, “no one dishonors Afghan women now,” and “no Afghan lady is slain in battles or raids,” neither of which is true.

The education system, which Zabiullah claimed had been expanded to the remaining 70% of Afghanistan, included 181 public and private universities that welcomed both men and women.

He went on to speak on the treatment of women in Afghanistan, saying that thousands of women worked in the school system, public health services, police force, media, banks, and “other key professions.”

He also mentioned that hundreds of destitute beggars were rounded up from the streets and given appropriate compensation, as well as the number of women who are unable to attend their jobs due to the unfavorable working environment.

Afghanistan, the spokesperson said, is a country “free from war, instability, massacres, and issues” where people are “living happily.”

He assured the public that the Afghan government was making every effort to restore financial stability despite the recent asset freeze and banking issues.

Zabihullah asserted that minority rights were upheld, saying that “none of them” had been slain, detained, charged with a crime, or barred from practicing their religion freely.

However, hundreds of attacks on minority places of worship have been thwarted. Some of the culprits have been arrested and given heavy punishments,” he said.

Thousands of people, he added, “who for 20 years repeatedly raised arms against their countrymen and in support of foreign invaders, killed Afghans,” had been granted public amnesty.

Zabihullah claims that the UN report was biassed because it failed to recognize any of their accomplishments.

He went on to say that the research proved his suspicions that the UN was being “misused” and was putting out “incorrect information.”
