PARIS: On Saturday, a security alert led to the evacuation of three floors of the Eiffel Tower in central Paris, France’s most iconic symbol, which welcomed 6.2 million visitors last year.
SETE, the organization responsible for the site’s management, reported that bomb disposal experts and police were conducting a thorough search of the area of the Eiffel, including a restaurant situated on one of the floors.
“It’s a standard procedure in situations like this, albeit one that is infrequent,” a spokesperson stated.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., both the three floors and the square beneath the monument were clear of visitors.
The construction of the tower commenced in January 1887 and concluded on March 31, 1889. It hosted two million visitors during the World’s Fair of 1889.
