A Muslim man was lynched in Rajasthan’s Alwar district over suspicions of illegally chopping wood in a forest in the Rampur area.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Wasim, along with his friends, was traveling in a pick-up jeep when they were attacked by a mob near Narol village on Thursday (August 17).
The mob was armed with sharp-edged weapons, sticks, and iron rods. Wasim sustained serious injuries in the attack and was taken to the B.D.M. Government Hospital in Kotputli, where he later died.
The attackers reportedly included forest officials. The victim’s father, Tayyab Khan, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Harosa police station. On Friday, the police detained 10 individuals, including four forest officials, for investigation.
The FIR states that Wasim had purchased wood from a local dealer during the day and was transporting it in the pick-up jeep to Rampur to load it at night. Villagers blocked the road using a JCB excavator and forced the victims out of their vehicles. A Forest Department jeep that was following them also arrived at the scene.
The police seized the forest officials’ vehicle, and the FIR was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (causing hurt), and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
