Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proposed the establishment of tripartite institutional mechanisms to enhance economic and investment cooperation among Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. This proposal was made during the inaugural session of the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
During the session, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the deep fraternal ties between Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkiye, rooted in cultural, historical, and religious bonds, as well as mutual respect and support on core issues. The summit was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye and President Ilham Heydar Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
PM Shehbaz welcomed the inaugural session of the Trilateral Meeting at the summit level, describing it as a natural progression of the engagements among the three brotherly Muslim countries, which share similar perspectives on various issues of mutual interest. He highlighted the excellent trilateral cooperation in political, parliamentary, and defense domains since the first Trilateral Meeting of Foreign Ministers in Baku in 2017.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with Turkiye and Azerbaijan to strengthen their tripartite cooperation into a multifaceted partnership, encompassing economic, energy, tourism, cultural, educational, technology and innovation, healthcare, and environmental sectors. The prime minister also underscored the potential for collaboration in culture, tourism, academia, and science and technology, given the strong bonds of friendship and robust people-to-people contacts among the three countries.
Previously, Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan have held trilateral consultations at the levels of foreign ministers, parliamentary speakers, and defense personnel.
PM Shehbaz arrived in Kazakhstan’s capital to attend the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) and SCO Plus summits. Upon his arrival at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, he was warmly received by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Deputy Prime Minister Alibek Bekayev, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Nauman Bashir, and other diplomatic personnel.
