The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has won a terrorist funding lawsuit in the United States.
NBP was accused of allowing money transactions that resulted in the funding of terrorism against American citizens in Afghanistan, which may have been an offence under the US Anti-Terrorism Act, as modified by the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act.
A move to dismiss had been filed by the NBP. The bank’s US counsel fought tooth and nail to keep it from being granted.
The action was brought in the Southern District Court, Second Circuit, New York, a United States District Court.
A statement from the NBP said that the claim against the bank had no legal foundation after the lawsuit was dismissed.
According to the NBP, it has always been dedicated to fighting financial crime by adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and worldwide best practices in anti-money laundering and Know Your Customer (KYC).
The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is Pakistan’s biggest public sector bank, with over 1,500 branches spread throughout the country and a substantial worldwide footprint.
