ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is not a guarantor in the Afghan peace process. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today, he said that Pakistan can facilitate peace process but cannot give any guarantee.
Qureshi said that Pakistan is neither supporting any faction in Afghanistan has ‘any favourite’ there. He said that a baseless propaganda was going on against Pakistan regarding ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister said that India has flouted the United Nations traditions by not inviting Pakistan in discussion on Afghanistan in the UN’s Security Council. He said that the New Delhi was trying to tell the world that Pakistan is the “cause of problems in Afghanistan”.
He pointed out that ‘Pakistan was not responsible for others failures in Afghanistan’, thus, indirectly hinting towards the United States which faced defeat in Afghanistan and left the war-ravaged country in haste without finding a viable solution for peace in the country.
Pakistan wants a political solution to present situation in Afghanistan, he said, adding, Pakistan does not support a blame-game.
Foreign Minister rejected the allegations levelled by the Afghan and Indian representatives at the UNSC meeting. He said that this propaganda was being carried deliberately to blame Pakistan for their own failures.
Qureshi said the proposed peace moot on Afghanistan to be held in Islamabad was postponed on the request of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
“If Afghans are at a deadlock then we too are working to resolve it. But even we have our limitations and we can only advance things to an extent,” he said. He added that international stakeholders know that Pakistan has made sincere attempts to resolve the Afghan conflict.
