Oman Allocates OMR 50 Million for Private Sector Job Programs

Private Sector Job Programs

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has allocated a substantial sum of OMR 50 million to support private-sector employment initiatives aimed at creating sustainable job opportunities. This move underscores the nation’s commitment to employment as a top national priority, according to reports from local media.

The announcement was made during a Cabinet meeting held at Al-Maamoura Palace in the Wilayat of Salalah, presided over by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

During the session, the Council of Ministers made several key national decisions related to employment, education, and economic development, with the employment agenda taking center stage.

The OMR 50 million allocated for private-sector employment programs will work in tandem with the existing 1.2% levy collected from various sectors, including the oil and gas industry, government agencies, and companies operating under the Oman Investment Authority.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham reiterated the government’s dedication to creating long-term, sustainable job opportunities for Omani citizens, ensuring that employment remains a high priority on the national agenda.

In addition to employment initiatives, the Sultanate is advancing its social welfare policies. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has allocated OMR 72 million from the state’s general budget to bolster the family support benefit program.

This funding will be directed through the newly established Social Protection Fund, further solidifying Oman’s commitment to social welfare and the well-being of its citizens.

Recognizing the growing need for enhanced educational infrastructure, particularly in areas with rising student populations, the Council of Ministers also approved an additional OMR 40 million. This allocation will expedite the construction of new schools as part of the current five-year national development plan.

His Majesty extended his best wishes to students as they begin the new academic year and commended educators for their role in shaping the future of Oman through their dedication and hard work.

Another critical area of focus for the Omani government is the nation’s public debt. Sultan Haitham expressed satisfaction with the country’s efforts to reduce its debt burden, noting that this achievement has contributed to a renewed sense of confidence in the local economy.

The reduction of public debt has also played a significant role in creating a more favorable environment for economic growth and investment.

In line with Oman’s broader vision of modernization and innovation, the Cabinet approved the National Program for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Digital Technologies.

This forward-looking initiative is designed to enhance Oman’s position on the global stage, particularly in terms of its ranking in the Government Readiness Index for AI.

The program seeks to promote the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies and support the growth of local tech companies that are developing innovative solutions in various sectors of the economy, including development projects.

By investing in AI and digital technologies, Oman is positioning itself for future growth, ensuring that its economy is well-equipped to navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

This initiative, coupled with ongoing efforts in employment, education, and debt management, reflects Oman’s holistic approach to national development and its commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens.

Overall, the strategic allocation of funds across these key sectors demonstrates Oman’s proactive stance on addressing pressing national challenges, from employment and education to economic stability and digital transformation.
