On Sunday in Birmingham, India defeated Pakistan by eight wickets thanks to a strong bowling effort and an outstanding opening combination between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.
Sneh Rana got two wickets in the ninth over to send back set hitters Bismah Maroof (17) and Muneeba Ali (32).
Due to India’s outstanding fielding, the wickets continued to fall at a steady rate. Shortly after Omaima Sohail was also run out and finally S Meghana managed to remove Aliya Riaz with a direct hit at the non-striker end.
India’s superb fielding in the match was highlighted by Shafali Verma’s low diving catch in the last over.
Pakistan had their work cut out for them after being dismissed for 99 in the rain-shortened 18-over game. Smriti Mandhana came out firing with all guns blazing. The left-handed opener hammered Anam Amin for sixes and fours in the second over.
Pakistan’s difficulties were compounded in the following over as Shafali Verma hit a six and a four.
With more than eight overs remaining, India was able to complete the run chase thanks in large part to Mandhana’s undefeated fifty.
