ISLAMABAD: Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), landed in Delhi. Upon her arrival at the New Delhi airport, she received a warm welcome accompanied by the melodies of renowned Sambalpuri folk songs from Odisha.
Upon hearing the Sambalpuri song’s melody and witnessing the artists’ dance performance, Georgieva found herself unable to resist dancing along and joining the Sambalpuri artists. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared a video of the event on X, expressing his pride in Odia culture.
Global Leaders Welcomed with Sambalpuri Song and Dance in India
“Difficult to resist Sambalpuri beats MD International Monetary Fund, K Georgieva, arrives in India for the G20 summit to a Sambalpuri song and dance welcome. Odia Pride,” Pradhan wrote in a post on X.
Presidents from various countries, Prime Ministers, are currently arriving in India to attend the G20 meeting. Heads of international organizations are also arriving to india. India is hosting this summit from September 9 to 10. The summit is taking place at the newly-inaugurated Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan in the national capital.
India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 last year. It organized approximately 200 G20-related meetings across 60 cities in the country. This marks the first time that India has chaired a G20 Summit.
The G20 was established in 1999. It’s primary goal was to ensure global financial stability. G20 serves as the main forum for international economic cooperation and includes middle-income countries in its deliberations. It also plays a crucial role in shaping and strengthening global structures and governance on major international economic matters.
The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit is taking place in New Delhi. It serves as the culmination of various G20 processes and meetings that took place throughout the year, involving ministers, senior officials, and also the civil societies.
Following the New Delhi Summit, a G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted, affirming the leaders’ commitment to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during ministerial and working group meetings.
Moreover, in 2024, Brazil will take over the next G20 presidency, followed by South Africa in 2025.
