In the past few hours, five Palestinian journalists have tragically lost their lives in different locations across Gaza, as reported by the Gaza government media office. This latest loss brings the total number of Palestinian journalists killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 158.
Concerns have been repeatedly raised by the government media office and human rights organizations that the Israeli military is deliberately targeting Palestinian journalists to suppress reporting on its actions in Gaza. According to data from the International Committee to Protect Journalists, this conflict has become the deadliest for journalists since the organization began documenting journalist killings globally in 1992.
The International Center for Journalists, based in Washington, highlighted last February that the level of violence against journalists in Gaza during this war is the highest in three decades. The organization has called for Israel to cease targeting journalists and to thoroughly investigate these tragic incidents.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel continues its aggressive military operations in Gaza, drawing widespread international condemnation. The International Court of Justice recently ordered Israel to halt its military activities in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians sought refuge from the conflict before it was invaded on May 6.
