Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk announced that Donald Trump’s account had been restored After conducting a poll in which the decision was narrowly supported by users.
Tweeting that 51.8% of Twitter’s 15 million+ users had voted to lift the ban, Elon Musk declared that “the people have spoken.”
The former US president, however, might not take the stage again after earlier declaring: “I don’t see any reason for it.”
The potential for inciting violence led to the suspension of his account in 2021.
Just a few days after Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 6, Twitter’s previous management took action.
As the US Congress attempted to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election, hundreds of rioters stormed the complex. Four civilians and a police officer died in the ensuing violence.
Following the riots, Donald Trump’s tens of millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts were also suspended.
A few months later, he introduced Truth Social, his own social media website.
The Republican declared earlier this week that he would run for president of the United States once more in 2024.
The most wealthy man in the world, Mr. Musk, acquired control of Twitter in October for $44 billion (£37 billion).
In response to worries that he might relax Twitter’s rules against hate speech and disinformation, he immediately started a series of radical changes within the massive social media company.
In response to queries about whether he would restore Mr. Trump’s account just over a week before the US midterm elections on November 8, he tweeted: “If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!”He informed the staff earlier this week that the company’s office buildings would be temporarily closed, effective right away.
The announcement comes as there are reports that many employees were leaving after Elon Musk told them to commit to “long hours at high intensity” or quit.
