Egypt will convene an emergency Arab summit on February 27 to address the escalating crisis in the Palestinian territories, the country’s foreign ministry announced today.
The summit comes amid intensified regional opposition to US President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, while placing the coastal enclave under US administration.
According to the statement, the summit was convened after high-level consultations between Egypt and other Arab nations, including Palestine, which formally requested the meeting. Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League, has also been involved in coordination efforts.
On Friday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held discussions with regional counterparts from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, reinforcing opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians.
Trump’s recent suggestion of turning Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” under American control, while resettling Palestinians in neighboring countries, has drawn widespread criticism.
Arab nations have categorically rejected the plan, reaffirming their commitment to a two-state solution with an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
