Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday during his official visit to Iran, where both leaders agreed to expand cooperation across various sectors.
Dar, who also serves as the foreign minister, is in Iran to participate in the 28th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Council of Ministers, as reported by state-run Radio Pakistan.
Upon his arrival in Mashhad, Dar was warmly welcomed by Mohammad Ali Nabipoor, the Vice Governor General of Razavi Khorasan, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Mudassir Tipu.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the ECO conference, the two ministers discussed areas of mutual interest and recent global and regional developments. They emphasized the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields.
This marks Dar and Araghchi’s second meeting in less than a month, having last met in early November when the Iranian foreign minister visited Pakistan. Their previous discussions focused on Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and regional security concerns.
Araghchi had also engaged with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to preventing terrorists from using its territory to target Pakistan.
At the ECO ministerial meeting, Dar is expected to sign the ‘Charter for ECO Clean Energy Centre.’ In his address, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s dedication to the ECO Charter and stress the importance of enhanced connectivity in the region through improved road and rail networks, simplified border procedures, and liberalized visa regimes.
