Biden Vows ‘Peaceful and Orderly’ Transition of Power

US President Joe Biden has pledged to oversee a “peaceful and orderly” transition of power to President-elect Donald Trump following the 2024 election results.

In an address from the White House Rose Garden, Biden took the opportunity to reflect on his administration’s accomplishments, emphasizing the significant impact of key legislative measures passed during his tenure. “Much of the work we’ve done is already being felt by the American people,” Biden said, adding that the full effects would be realized over the next decade. He specifically highlighted over a trillion dollars in infrastructure investments aimed at improving the lives of Americans, particularly in rural and economically disadvantaged communities.

Biden also called for national unity following a divisive election. “Something I hope we can do, no matter who you voted for, is see each other, not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans,” he said, stressing the need to reduce political tensions and “bring down the temperature” of US politics.

Acknowledging the strong emotions stirred by the election results, Biden urged Americans to accept the outcome, saying, “You can’t love your country only when you win.” He appealed to the nation’s resilience, reminding the public that “setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable,” and reinforcing the idea that “America endures.”

Biden also praised Vice President Kamala Harris, describing her as a woman of “true character” with “great backbone” and leadership integrity. He reflected on her inspiring campaign and underscored her importance as a leader for the nation.

In a significant development earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, officially conceded the 2024 election to President-elect Donald Trump in a brief but impactful phone call. CNN reported that Harris extended her congratulations to Trump, stressing the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and expressing her hope that he would serve as “a president for all Americans.”

The call lasted only a few minutes, but its symbolic importance underscored the Democrats’ commitment to a smooth and respectful transition of power.
