Beijing: China and Russia building an international system that is “more just”

A top Chinese official stated that China is ready to work with Russia to establish a “more just and rational path” in international order ahead of this week’s summit between the two nations’ leaders.

China and Russia, despite their rocky history as Cold War allies, have grown closer in recent years in what they describe as a “no limits” alliance that serves as a counterweight to the United States.

According to a readout from China’s foreign ministry, Communist Party foreign affairs chief Yang Jiechi told Russian ambassador to China Andrey Denisov on Monday that “under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President (Vladimir) Putin, the relationship between the two countries has always moved forward on the right track.”

According to the ministry, Yang said China was “willing to work with Russia to continuously implement the spirit of high-level strategic cooperation between the two countries, safeguard the common interests of both sides, and promote the development of the international order in a more just and rational direction.”

According to the summary, in response, Denisov commended the “fruitful results” of bilateral relations.

After receiving unprecedented Western sanctions for its invasion of Ukraine, Russia has attempted to strengthen ties with Asian countries, particularly China.
