Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has expressed his gratitude for Türkiye’s unwavering support as Lebanon continues to face Israeli aggression.
During a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday, Mikati commended Türkiye for standing by Lebanon during times of crisis.
“Lebanon has faced severe challenges, but our faith in Allah and the steadfast support of our friends, particularly Türkiye, has been our strength,” Mikati said.
He highlighted the extensive damage caused to Lebanon’s economy, society, and environment due to ongoing Israeli attacks, which persist despite a ceasefire declared last month following over a year of cross-border violence.
Mikati praised the solidarity shown by Türkiye and other Arab nations, emphasizing the critical role such support has played in helping Lebanon navigate this difficult period.
Regional Dynamics and Strengthened Ties
The Lebanese premier also addressed the broader regional context, pointing to political shifts in the Middle East, particularly in neighboring Syria. He stressed the importance of international pressure on Israel to halt its violations of the ceasefire and called for greater accountability to ensure peace in the region.
Mikati reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to supporting Syria’s sovereignty, freedom, and territorial integrity, underscoring the interconnected fates of the two nations. He also stressed the significance of fostering strong relations between Lebanon, Türkiye, and Syria, highlighting the shared goal of stability and cooperation in the region.
