ZAFARWAL: In a significant development along the Pakistan-India border, local residents in Punjab’s Zafarwal region successfully intercepted and captured an Indian surveillance drone that intruded into Pakistani airspace. The incident occurred in the village of Bhooliyan on Thursday, citing local police officials.
According to law enforcement authorities, the drone—identified as a surveillance device reportedly operated by India’s R-6 Battalion—was captured intact by vigilant villagers shortly after it crossed into Pakistani territory. The local citizens quickly informed the police, who then took custody of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for further investigation.
Security agencies have begun analyzing the drone’s data and flight path in order to understand the nature and extent of its surveillance mission. Sources say the drone may have been on a reconnaissance mission as part of broader Indian efforts to gather intelligence along the Line of Control and Working Boundary.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, following a series of cross-border drone attacks allegedly carried out by Indian forces. In a press briefing on Thursday, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, revealed that India has recently launched drone attacks targeting multiple Pakistani cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawalpur, and Karachi.
General Chaudhry disclosed that at least one civilian was martyred, and four soldiers sustained injuries during these unprovoked drone strikes. He stated that the attacks, carried out between the night of May 7 and 8, deliberately targeted civilian areas and even mosques—actions described as grave violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international law.
According to the DG ISPR, the Pakistan Armed Forces responded decisively, successfully shooting down at least 25 drones. He further claimed that India is employing Israeli-manufactured drones in its campaign, raising further concerns about foreign involvement in the escalating conflict.
As the situation develops, Pakistani authorities remain on high alert, and the capture of the Indian drone by civilians in Zafarwal adds a new dimension to the ongoing border tensions.
