Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his re-assumption of office.
In a social media post on platform X, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his felicitations to his Pakistani counterpart, stating: “Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.”
This message follows Shehbaz’s inauguration ceremony held the day prior, where he took the oath of office in a prestigious event at the President House in Islamabad.
Shehbaz Sharif was administered the oath by President Arif Alvi, with attendees including PPP leaders Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, and other dignitaries.
His election as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan for a second term occurred on Sunday, securing 201 votes in the National Assembly, triumphing over Sunni Ittehad Council-backed PTI candidate Omar Ayub Khan.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq officially declared Shehbaz Sharif as the 24th prime minister of the 16th National Assembly and the leader of the Lower House of parliament.
This marks Shehbaz’s return to the premiership after previously serving for approximately 16 months in a multi-party coalition PDM government following the removal of Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.
