ISLAMABAD: A senior Indian diplomatic delegation arrived in Islamabad to participate in the three-day meeting of the Council of National Coordinators (CNC) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). It marks India’s first such delegation visit to Pakistan in two years.
Indian National Coordinator Alok Amitabh Dimri is leading the delegation at the September 28-30 meeting.
Pakistan’s National Coordinator is chairing the session, which brings together national coordinators from SCO member states and representatives of the organisation’s Secretariat.
Participants are discussing a broad range of matters concerning cooperation and coordination among SCO members. The agenda also includes reviewing activities planned under Pakistan’s current SCO chairmanship.
The meeting will further focus on preparations for upcoming SCO conferences, meetings and other scheduled events.
Pakistan assumed the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27, making the gathering an important early engagement under Islamabad’s leadership of the organisation.
The Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday that Pakistan’s National Coordinator would preside over the meeting. It said representatives would discuss SCO cooperation, coordination, the programme of activities under Pakistan’s chairmanship and preparations for forthcoming events. The gathering provides an opportunity for member states to coordinate their positions and organisational activities while strengthening engagement through the SCO framework.
