ISLAMABAD: India intends to finalize the initial stage of the construction of the Ram Temple, situated at the location where the Babri Masjid once stood in Ayodhya, by December, with plans to make it accessible to worshippers in January.
The construction of the temple site has been a source of intense controversy for many years, with both Hindu and Muslim communities asserting claims to it. Hindus argue that the site has deep religious significance as the birthplace of Lord Ram and had been sacred to them long before the Mughals constructed the Babri mosque there in 1528.

A Hindu mob demolished the Babri Masjid in 1992, leading to widespread riots that claimed approximately 2,000 lives, mostly among the Muslim population.
In 2019, India’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Hindu community, granting them ownership of the site and thus clearing the way for the construction of the Ram Mandir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Hindu-nationalist party has long supported this initiative.
Notably, Modi has received an invitation to participate in the prayers at the upcoming opening ceremony, as confirmed by Nripendra Misra, chairman of the Shri Ramjanmabhoomi Temple Construction Committee, in a statement to the press.
