PIMS Specialists Examine Former Prime Minister
Former prime minister Imran Khan has received medical treatment in jail after developing a problem in his right eye. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that his vision was affected, prompting immediate medical attention.
Specialist doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The medical team conducted a detailed eye examination inside the prison. As part of the initial treatment, doctors administered an injection to his affected eye.
According to sources, the injection was given to prevent further damage and deterioration of vision. Doctors advised close monitoring of his condition over the coming days. Medical staff inside the jail have been instructed to remain alert.
PIMS hospital was also placed on standby. Extra security and medical arrangements were made in case Khan needed to be shifted for advanced treatment. Authorities prepared backup plans to ensure a smooth transfer if required.
Hospitalisation Advised but Jail Treatment Continues
Sources said that Dr Muhammad Arif, head of the Ophthalmology Department at PIMS, reviewed Imran Khanโs condition. He advised that hospitalisation might be necessary for better medical care and observation.
Despite the recommendation, jail authorities believed treatment could continue within Adiala Jail for now. Doctors proceeded with medical care inside the prison, while keeping hospital facilities ready as a precaution.
Officials clarified that no immediate transfer took place. Social media reports suggesting that Khan had been shifted to hospital caused confusion. Sources stressed that these claims were inaccurate.
Medical teams remain in contact with jail authorities. Further decisions will depend on how Khan responds to treatment. Doctors are expected to reassess his condition if symptoms persist or worsen.
PTI Expresses Concern Over Health Transparency
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed concern over the former premierโs health. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said reports about Khanโs condition had alarmed party workers and family members.
Gohar said authorities had not clearly disclosed the nature of Khanโs illness. He added that PTI leaders were last allowed to meet Imran Khan on December 20. Since then, access has remained restricted.
The PTI chairman demanded that party leaders be allowed to meet Khan without further delay. He said transparency regarding medical issues was essential, especially given Khanโs status as a former prime minister.
Other PTI leaders present at the press conference echoed similar concerns. They urged authorities to ensure proper medical care and regular updates about Khanโs health.
Imran Khan has been held at Adiala Jail following convictions in multiple cases. He maintains that the cases against him are politically motivated. His party continues to challenge the verdicts in court while raising concerns over his health and detention conditions.
For now, doctors are monitoring Khanโs eye condition closely. Jail and hospital authorities remain on alert as treatment continues.
