ISLAMABAD: PTI founder Imran Khan was shifted to Islamabadโs Shifa International Hospital early Friday under tight security following a Supreme Court order.
The incarcerated former premier arrived through Gate No. 1 after police escorted him via Patras Bokhari Road.
Imran has remained imprisoned since August 5, 2023, after his conviction in the Toshakhana case. He is also serving a 14-year sentence in the ยฃ190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.
However, concerns over his health have increased during his imprisonment, prompting repeated demands from PTI leaders for medical attention.
Following his arrival, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the hospital to review security arrangements.
Meanwhile, authorities completed preparations late Thursday with police, administration, jail officials and Rangers coordinating the arrangements.
According to an Islamabad Police security order, more than 800 law enforcement personnel have been deployed around the hospital.
Moreover, police established security pickets on roads leading to the facility and conducted a security audit of the hospital.
Officials also formed teams to escort Imran from Adiala Jail and manage his medical examination.
If doctors admit him, the chief commissioner will declare the relevant hospital area a sub-jail.
Consequently, Adiala Jail staff will remain deployed at the hospital during his treatment.
