LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has declined to undergo polygraph, voice matching, and photogrammetry tests requested by Lahore police as part of their ongoing investigation into the May 9 incidents.
Imran Khan, currently detained at Adiala Jail, stated, “I am under investigation by many institutions and will not take any tests for now. I will give the police time later regarding different tests.” This decision comes despite requests from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency to perform the tests.
The Lahore police have completed the first phase of their investigation. DSP Javed Asif, leading the inquiry, visited Khan at Adiala Jail. Initially, Khan refused to answer questions, citing a lack of trust in the police. However, after DSP Asif assured him of a fair investigation, Khan agreed to respond to questions for about 15 minutes.
This investigation revolves around the violent protests that erupted nationwide on May 9 following Khan’s arrest. Khan has been imprisoned for nearly a year and faces multiple convictions, including those related to the Toshakhana references, the cipher case, and the Iddat case, in which his wife, Bushra Bibi, is also jailed.
Additionally, on Monday, an accountability court in Islamabad extended the physical remand of Khan and Bushra Bibi by seven days in a new Toshakhana case.
As legal proceedings and investigations into the incidents of May 9 involving Khan continue to unfold, the situation is constantly changing. These developments shed light on the persistent tensions and legal hurdles that the former premier is facing.
