ISLAMABAD: PTI chief Imran Khan today challenged in the Islamabad High Court the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan wherein he was disqualified on Friday in Toshakhana reference case.
On Monday, (Oct 24), the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah will take up for hearing the petition of Imran Khan.
Imran Khan’s legal counsel, Barrister Ali Zafar, filed a writ petition in the IHC in which he urged the court that the ECP’s order be declared “against the settled principles of law” on Article 63.
The petitioner also urged the IHC to declare the verdict of the ECP “misconceived” and set it aside.
Imran Khan is also seeking a court declaration claiming that the ECP lacked the jurisdiction to decide “any questions of ‘corrupt practices and disqualification’” under the Election Act and Election Rules, 2017.
The Toshakhana is under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division where precious gifts given to rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats, and officials by heads of other governments and states and foreign dignitaries are stored.
According to Toshakhana rules, all gifts/presents and other such materials which the rulers or bureaucrats receive from abroad are reported to the Cabinet Division.
