ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has appointed Barrister Aliya Hamza as the head of the party’s Punjab political committee, following internal disagreements over the committee’s initial formation.
Imran Khan voiced strong concerns regarding the composition of the previously announced four-member Punjab political committee, which included Salman Akram Raja, Omar Ayub Khan, and Usman Akram. He conveyed his reservations through Senator Ali Zafar and directed the PTI leadership to install Aliya Hamza as the committee’s chairperson.
The initial committee structure, reportedly presented to Imran Khan by party leaders, had been formed without assigning a leading role to Hamza, prompting Khan’s intervention. Acting on his instructions, Senator Ali Zafar communicated the revised decision, also informing senior party member Firdous Shamim Naqvi.
The development was confirmed during an informal discussion with journalists outside Adiala Jail, where Senator Ali Zafar, Barrister Aliya Hamza, Ali Imran, and Barrister Faisal Chaudhry all acknowledged the leadership change.
