ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) review mission and the State Bank of Pakistan started discussion on the IMF program today with key focus on major economic issues.
The talks in Karachi will cover inflation, monetary policy and the exchange rate, according to official sources.
Meanwhile, the IMF mission is expected to arrive in Islamabad on September 28 for broader discussions with Pakistani authorities.
The mission will hold talks with the Ministry of Finance, Federal Board of Revenue and other ministries during the fourth review of Pakistan’s $7 billion Extended Fund Facility.
Top official sources said the mission’s Islamabad visit remains subject to normal conditions in the federal capital.
IMF to conduct Article IV consultation
The upcoming discussions will also include an Article IV consultation, which the IMF is conducting after a three-year gap.
The last Article IV consultation for Pakistan took place in September 2024.
Under Article IV, the IMF regularly assesses economic and financial conditions in member countries.
It also reviews exchange rate arrangements and economic policies as part of the consultation process.
The latest assessment will cover Pakistan’s economic conditions and policy framework alongside the ongoing programme review.
