ISLAMABAD: A senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal claimed that interim Prime Minister Imran Khan was facing an illegal funding probe in the United States which prompted Khan to launch anti-American campaign in Pakistan.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad, PML(N) leader asserted that Imran Khan Niazi was involved in illegal funding in the United States and a probe was likely to be started against him.
Ahsan Iqbal further said that PM Khan’s claim about the foreign-funded conspiracy was an outcome of the probe in the United State. He said that Imran Khan wanted to divert attention of people and he was trying to link his dismissal from the government a conspiracy.
“Imran sahib, you become involved in illegal activities and receive illegal funding, but to save your skin and escape accountability, you put Pakistan’s foreign policy at stake.”

PML(N) leader said that Imran Khan claimed US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu was the person who issued a threat to his government in a conversation with Pakistan Ambassador to Washington Asad Majeed on March 7, but Donald Lu was invited to a Pakistan embassy event on March 15 as a keynote speaker, which contradicted government’s conspiracy theory.
“If Donald Lu was threatening your government, how did he become the keynote speaker at an event in the Pakistan embassy on March 15?” he asked.
Iqbal said that Imran Khan did nothing between March 7 and March 27, but suddenly when his allies left him and he received the news from the United States that an investigation against him could be launched over “illegal accounts, your fund-raising, and your money laundering” he saw the foreign conspiracy theory.
The PML-N leader accused Imran Khan of destroying Pakistan’s relations with four key economic partners, China, European Union, the United States, and the Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia.
Ahsan Iqbal claimed Imran Khan has sold precious gifts which he received from the Arab leaders during his visits.
