ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to appear before the bench handling the case of missing Baloch students. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the orders during the hearing and directed the interim PM to make his appearance on the upcoming Monday.
As the hearing commenced, the assistant attorney general requested an adjournment, citing the unavailability of the attorney general. However, the court rejected this plea. Justice Kayani, emphasizing the seriousness of enforced disappearances, expressed the view that those involved should face the death penalty.
“Those involved in enforced disappearances should be given the death penalty twice,” remarked Justice Kayani. Subsequently, he called upon the caretaker PM to appear in person on Monday at 10 am to explain why a case should not be registered against him.

Despite a plea from the advocate general for more time in the case, Justice Kayani refused to entertain the government’s request for an extension. This marks the second time that PM Kakar has been summoned by the IHC; the first summons occurred on November 29 of the previous year. However, he did not appear on that occasion due to being out of the country.
The repeated summoning of the caretaker PM underscores the gravity of the missing Baloch students’ case and the judiciary’s determination to address concerns related to enforced disappearances. The upcoming court appearance will likely shed further light on the developments and proceedings in this sensitive and significant legal matter.
