Explosion Reported Near Pir Zakori Bridge
Two people were injured after an improvised explosive device exploded near a police vehicle in Peshawar on Sunday.
The blast occurred close to Pir Zakori Bridge on GT Road in the city’s Shawar area.
Initial reports said the injured included a police officer and another person. Both reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Rescue 1122 dispatched medical and emergency teams to the location after receiving information about the explosion.
Emergency workers provided first aid at the scene. Police later transported the injured to a nearby hospital for further examination and treatment.
Their conditions were described as stable. No deaths were reported in the incident.
The extent of damage to the police vehicle and surrounding property was not immediately disclosed.
Officials also did not confirm whether the explosive device was planted along the roadside or activated remotely.
The intended target of the attack remains under investigation. No organisation immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion.
Police Seal Area and Begin Search Operation
Police cordoned off the blast site shortly after the explosion.
Officers restricted public movement to protect evidence and prevent any further security threat.
A search operation was launched in nearby neighbourhoods to locate those responsible for planting or detonating the device.
Investigators are examining the type of explosives used and the method employed in the attack.
Bomb disposal specialists and other security personnel were expected to inspect the scene for fragments and possible secondary devices.
Police may also review surveillance recordings and question witnesses who were present near Pir Zakori Bridge when the blast occurred.
Authorities had not announced any arrests at the time of reporting.
Security around the affected area was expected to remain heightened while the investigation continued.
The attack has again highlighted the risks faced by police officers performing patrol and security duties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police vehicles and personnel have frequently faced militant attacks involving explosives, gunfire and roadside bombs across the province.
However, investigators have not yet confirmed whether Sunday’s explosion was connected to any particular militant organisation.
Governor Kundi Condemns Attack
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the explosion.
He directed the relevant authorities to submit an immediate report about the incident.
The governor also ordered officials to ensure the best available medical treatment for the injured.
Kundi said groups attempting to disturb peace would not succeed in destabilising Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He praised the police, security forces and law enforcement agencies for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
The governor said the country would continue remembering the services of personnel who had risked their lives to protect the public.
He also reaffirmed the government’s support for security personnel confronting terrorism across the province.
