Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the eighth-generation Elantra sedan at the 2026 Busan Auto Show in South Korea, where the model is marketed as the Avante.
The redesigned sedan features a completely new exterior, larger dimensions, a more spacious cabin and upgraded technology. Hyundai said the latest model aims to deliver improved comfort and driving performance.
The new Elantra adopts the company’s “Art of Steel” design philosophy. It features sharper body lines, flared wheel arches, flush door handles and distinctive H-shaped lighting at both the front and rear.
Compared with its predecessor, the sedan is 55 millimeters longer and 30 millimeters wider. Additionally, the wheelbase has increased by 30 millimeters to 2,750 millimeters.
According to Hyundai, the larger dimensions provide interior space comparable to that of a midsize sedan. Consequently, passengers benefit from increased legroom and overall cabin comfort.
Inside, the Elantra introduces Hyundai’s next-generation Android-based Pleos infotainment system. The standard setup includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen, while buyers can choose an optional 14.6-inch display.
The cabin also offers dual wireless charging pads and ambient lighting. Furthermore, the sedan features a column-mounted gear selector while retaining physical controls for essential vehicle functions.
In the South Korean market, Hyundai will offer the sedan with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The powertrain produces 147 horsepower, representing a 25-horsepower increase over the previous generation.
Buyers can also choose a 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain that delivers a combined output of 155 horsepower. The hybrid model incorporates Hyundai’s latest regenerative braking technology for improved efficiency.
Additionally, the hybrid introduces a new Stay Mode feature. This function allows occupants to operate the air conditioning and infotainment system using the battery while the vehicle remains parked.
Hyundai has not announced international launch schedules or market-specific availability. However, the new Elantra reflects the company’s continued focus on advanced technology, improved efficiency and enhanced passenger comfort.
