At least four people, including a child, were killed after a US missile strike reportedly hit a wedding gathering in southern Iran. More than 50 others suffered injuries in the incident, according to the Iranian Red Crescent.
The attack reportedly occurred in Kuhestak, located in Sirik county of Hormozgan province. The Red Crescent said shrapnel struck a residential house where a wedding celebration was underway.
“Following a US missile attack, shrapnel hit a residential home in the city of Kuhestak, in Sirik county of Hormozgan province, where a wedding celebration was taking place,” the Red Crescent said in a post on X early on Wednesday.
“More than 50 people were injured and four people, including a young child, were martyred.”
A video shared by an Iranian government account showed extensive debris and damage at the reported wedding site. People could also be heard screaming in the background.
However, US authorities have not confirmed the reported incident. Earlier, Hormozgan Deputy Governor Ahmad Nafisi reported two deaths and several injuries.
US strikes Iranian military targets
The incident came amid a wider escalation between the United States and Iran. Washington said it was conducting strikes against targets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
US authorities said the attacks followed alleged Iranian attempts against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. They also cited attacks against American service members stationed in the region.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported explosions across several areas near the strategic waterway. Explosions were also reported at an airport in southern Kerman province.
The Sirik area remains strategically important because it lies along the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway has become a major flashpoint during the conflict.
The United States joined Israel in attacking Iran on February 28. The strikes reportedly killed Iran’s longtime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials.
Iran responded by asserting control over the Strait of Hormuz and launching missile and drone attacks against Gulf targets. The conflict has continued to threaten regional security and global energy supplies.
Although the initial US-Israeli bombardment lasted nearly 40 days, attacks around Hormuz have continued. Consequently, hopes for a lasting peace agreement remain uncertain as tensions persist.
