Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed a drone attack on an Aramco refinery in southern Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The group’s affiliated news agency Saba reported the alleged attack. It said Houthi forces targeted the facility with two drones.
According to Saba, the attack struck an Aramco refinery in the Jizan region. The report attributed the claim to a Houthi military source.
Houthis Cite Alleged Saudi Violations
The source described the attack as retaliation for alleged Saudi violations of Yemeni airspace. It also cited alleged violations of Yemen’s sovereignty in Saada and Hajjah.
The Houthis reportedly warned that they would respond to further attacks. They said any aggression against Yemen would face a decisive response.
There was no independent confirmation of the reported drone strike. Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed the Houthi claim.
Regional Tensions Raise Security Concerns
The reported attack comes amid renewed tensions surrounding Yemen’s long-running conflict. A fragile truce between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces appeared to collapse last month.
The Houthis also announced a maritime blockade targeting Saudi Arabia in July. They subsequently claimed attacks against Saudi tankers in the Red Sea.
On Sunday, the group claimed another strike against an oil facility on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. It linked that attack to alleged Saudi drone incursions into northwest Yemen.
Meanwhile, tensions around regional shipping remain high. The Houthi threats coincide with Iran’s reported blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The developments have increased concerns over regional security and energy infrastructure. They also threaten further disruption to commercial shipping across key Middle Eastern waterways.
