Three people were killed and 36 others injured in attacks targeting two major airports in Saudi Arabia as fighting between Yemen’s Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces intensified.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh came under attack on Tuesday and Wednesday. The incidents caused casualties and material damage at both facilities.
At Abha airport, two residents, a Moroccan and an Algerian, were killed, while 28 people sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. At King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese national was killed and eight others were wounded.
Authorities said the injured included Saudi citizens and foreign residents. All those hurt in the attacks were taken to hospitals for medical treatment.
Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the attacks. Its military spokesman said the group targeted King Khalid airport with drones and attacked Abha airport using ballistic missiles and drones.
The attacks came amid a renewed escalation in Yemen, where Saudi-backed government forces are fighting Houthi forces for control of strategic areas. The conflict has intensified around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a crucial international shipping route.
Saudi-led coalition forces have vowed to respond to the attacks. The coalition also reported strikes against Houthi military positions in several parts of Yemen.
The renewed fighting has further worsened the humanitarian situation. More than 200,000 people have reportedly been displaced since the latest escalation began, increasing pressure on already vulnerable communities.
The latest airport attacks represent a significant escalation in the conflict and have raised fresh concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.
