Security forces killed 15 terrorists attempting to infiltrate Pakistan through the Afghanistan border, the military’s media wing said Thursday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attempted crossing occurred in North Waziristan between August 31 and September 1.
The ISPR said troops detected the group’s movement and responded with patience and professionalism. A precise engagement lasting 36 hours resulted in the deaths of 15 militants identified by the military as members of Fitna-al-Khawarij.
Weapons Recovered During Sanitisation Operation
Following the engagement, security forces launched a sanitisation operation and recovered large quantities of weapons and ammunition. ISPR said the recovery highlighted the militants’ alleged plans to disrupt peace and stability across Pakistan.
The military also reiterated its concerns over militants using Afghan territory for cross-border terrorism. It accused the Afghan Taliban regime of failing to prevent such activity and called for effective border management and compliance with international obligations.
Counter-Terrorism Campaign Continues
ISPR said security forces were continuing the sanitisation operation to locate and eliminate any remaining militants in the area. It added that the Azm-i-Istehkam campaign would continue at full pace to counter foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised security forces for thwarting the infiltration attempt near the Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan. He said their professionalism, patience and courage had foiled the terrorists’ plans.
The prime minister also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the Azm-i-Istehkam campaign against terrorism. He said the campaign would continue with full force and determination until the threat of terrorism was eliminated from Pakistan.
