Group Says Tehran Will Push for End to Fighting in Lebanon
BEIRUT: Hezbollah has expressed confidence that Iran will insist on including Lebanon in any future agreement with the United States, as diplomatic efforts continue to advance toward a possible understanding between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking in remarks broadcast by Al-Manar television, Hezbollah politician Hassan Fadlallah said the group trusts Iran to ensure that developments in Lebanon remain part of any broader settlement.
โIf an agreement is reached, we have complete confidence in the Islamic Republic and believe it will insist on including the Lebanon file in any arrangement,โ Fadlallah said.
His comments came as reports suggested negotiations between the United States and Iran were progressing, with hopes growing that a memorandum aimed at halting hostilities in the Gulf region could be finalized in the coming days.
Negotiations Continue as Lebanon Remains Key Issue
According to diplomatic sources, discussions over a potential US-Iran memorandum remain ongoing, with negotiators still working on the final language of the proposed agreement.
Reports indicate that Iran continues to maintain that any comprehensive deal should also address the situation in Lebanon and include measures aimed at ending ongoing hostilities there.
Earlier, senior Iranian officials reiterated similar positions, emphasizing that developments in Lebanon remain closely linked to wider regional security arrangements.
Observers view the issue as one of the most sensitive elements of the negotiations, given the continued tensions involving Lebanon and regional actors.
Regional Ceasefire Efforts Face Challenges
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in Lebanon continue. The United States has been involved in mediation efforts between the Lebanese and Israeli governments, seeking to reduce tensions and establish a more durable framework for stability.
However, significant obstacles remain. Hezbollah has voiced opposition to certain proposals presented during the negotiations and has maintained its own position regarding future arrangements.
Analysts say the outcome of the broader US-Iran discussions could have important implications for regional security and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions across multiple fronts.
As negotiations continue, attention remains focused on whether a final agreement can bridge differences over Lebanon while addressing wider regional concerns and security priorities.
