The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has opened online registration for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026.
Law graduates can submit their applications until midnight on September 27, 2026.
The Education Testing Council (ETC) has tentatively scheduled the Law-GAT for October 18, 2026.
Passing the Law-GAT is mandatory for law graduates seeking eligibility to enrol with the Bar as advocates.
Who Can Apply for Law-GAT?
Candidates must have completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or an equivalent law qualification.
The degree must be from a local or foreign university recognised by the Higher Education Commission or Pakistan Bar Council.
Applicants must also meet other Pakistan Bar Council requirements for enrolment as advocates.
Candidates should ensure they meet all eligibility requirements before submitting their applications.
Law-GAT Test Pattern and Passing Marks
The Law-GAT will consist of multiple-choice questions.
Candidates can access the revised Law-GAT syllabus through the HEC website and prepare according to the updated test requirements.
The test carries 100 marks.
Candidates must score at least 50 marks to pass the assessment.
A passing Law-GAT score remains valid for two years.
Each candidate can make a maximum of seven attempts to qualify for the test.
How to Register for Law-GAT 2026
Candidates must apply online through the HEC Education Testing Council registration portal.
Applicants need to complete the online form and provide all required information.
Only applications that are fully completed and submitted will be considered.
Saved or incomplete applications will not be accepted after the registration deadline.
Candidates should carefully verify their name, CNIC number, mobile number and other personal information before submitting the form.
The information provided must match the candidate’s official CNIC.
Candidates must register using their own CNIC.
Applications submitted using a parent’s, sibling’s, relative’s or another person’s CNIC will not be accepted, and the candidate will not be allowed to take the test.
Law-GAT Fee Payment Procedure
Applicants must pay the test fee through 1Link/1Bill Invoice services.
After generating the required consumer number, candidates can complete the payment through the available payment channels.
Once payment has been made, applicants must log into their ETC dashboard and select “Verify Online Payment.”
The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Candidates experiencing registration or payment issues should contact HEC’s online help service before the application deadline.
HEC will not process unresolved registration complaints after the portal closes.
Roll Number Slips and Test Centres
Roll number slips will be issued approximately one week before the test.
Candidates will be able to access their slips through the ETC website.
HEC will also send notifications through registered email addresses and SMS.
Applicants should therefore provide an active email address and mobile number during registration.
Candidates using mobile numbers that have been transferred from one network to another may not receive SMS alerts.
Such applicants should regularly check their registered email for important updates.
The Law-GAT will be conducted in major cities across Pakistan.
Candidates can select their preferred test centre from the available options during registration.
Once selected, the test centre cannot be changed.
However, ETC may assign a different centre if fewer than 250 candidates register for a particular location.
Law graduates planning to take the Law-GAT should complete their registration and payment well before the September 27 deadline to avoid last-minute problems.
