Heavy rainfall lashed Balakot and surrounding areas of Mansehra on Sunday, causing flash flooding and disrupting traffic. Moreover, several tourist vehicles became stranded as overflowing streams blocked roads.
Flash Flooding Disrupts Traffic
The downpour caused Balakot, Damgla, Shawal, and Boli nullahs to overflow suddenly. Consequently, floodwaters spread across nearby areas and created dangerous travel conditions.
Additionally, landslides blocked roads at several locations, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic. Authorities continued monitoring the affected routes as rescue efforts remained underway.
Several vehicles carrying tourists became stranded after floodwaters and debris cut off road access. However, emergency teams responded quickly to assist those trapped.
Rescue Teams Shift Tourists To Safety
Rescue 1122 personnel safely evacuated stranded tourists from affected areas. They shifted them to secure locations to prevent further risks during the ongoing rainfall.
Meanwhile, the rescue department urged residents and visitors to avoid rain drains and streams throughout the monsoon season. Officials warned that water levels could rise rapidly without notice.
Authorities advised travellers to remain alert and follow official safety instructions before visiting hilly areas. They also encouraged motorists to avoid flooded roads until conditions improve.
Heavy monsoon rains continue affecting parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides. Emergency services remain on standby to respond to any further incidents.
