SWAT: Heavy rainfall washed away another portion of the Sakhra Bridge and disrupting local connectivity here Wednesday morning, according to local media reports.
Authorities had rebuilt the bridge after heavy rains and flooding caused its collapse last year. However, the latest damage has renewed concerns among residents about the structure’s ability to withstand recurring floods.
Heavy Rain Forecast for Islamabad and Northern Regions
Meanwhile, the weather department forecast heavy rainfall for Islamabad, where the minimum temperature stood at 19 degrees Celsius and the maximum could reach 27 degrees.
Humidity remained above 78 per cent, while winds were expected to reach around seven kilometres per hour.
Furthermore, the Met Office predicted rain and thunderstorms across Azad Kashmir, northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours.
The forecast raises the possibility of further weather-related disruption in vulnerable mountainous areas.
Karachi Faces Hot and Humid Conditions
In contrast, Karachi continued to experience hot and humid weather amid an absence of cooling sea breezes.
The city’s maximum temperature was expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while authorities recorded a minimum temperature of 28 degrees.
Moreover, humidity stood at around 78 per cent, adding to uncomfortable conditions for residents.
While northern Pakistan faces another spell of rain and thunderstorms, Karachi remains under persistent heat and humidity, highlighting sharply different weather conditions across the country.
The latest damage in Swat has again prompted calls for stronger infrastructure capable of surviving increasingly disruptive periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.
